New Database Server

It appears that the server that WRXModders was hosted on with GoDaddy has been being hammered lately. It has been going down suffering from too many connections and the like.

I got fed up today when it went down, did a backup of the database and created a new database on another of the SQL servers in GoDaddy's farm and then restored the DB to it. Total time took about 20 minutes from when I started. If you notice now, it's VERY quick.

Problem is, our network really should be on a virtual private server at a reputable and RELIABLE company. If anyone has any tips on such a place or would like to donate money towards us getting a co-located server somewhere then we're open to it.

I've been using http://www.ixwebhosting.com for about 4 years now and have been nothing but pleased with them. They just opened up a new facility recently too. Somewhere in Ohio, I think. They're worth a look, at least.

I am sure if anyone donated they'd get a "wrxmodders supporter" badge of some sort.. I dunno. this whole thing hasn't really been discussed.

I've actually been tossing around the idea of moving us to dreamhost.com but it's such a pain to move all of the sites...

^^i think the only site that needs to be moved at this point is wrxmodders as it is clearly the single most active site. Then we could slowly move the others.

I am thinking since the site has been fairly smooth lately we can just wait till the new garage comes out and move over to phpbb3 at that time.

That's my plan. I just don't have the time to move the site around right now because you need to sit down and box out a big block of time to deal with problems. Luckily in all of the moving I've only ever had one single problem, but that's not to say that something terrible couldn't happen.

...it's kinda like walking through Times Square during rush hour with a stack of 400 plates in your arms.
